Ravenhurst Primary School, Crossing Facilities & Advisory School 20mph Zone
Ravenhurst Primary School, Crossing Facilities & Advisory School 20mph Zone

Leicestershire County Council is proposing a scheme to improve crossing facilities of the Welcombe Avenue/Henley Crescent/Ravenhurst Road junction. The scheme involves footway resurfacing, flush pedestrian crossing points, a junction speed table and bus stop improvements, along with an advisory school 20mph zone.

Scheme construction is proposed to begin the week commencing the 13th of July 2009 and is anticipated to finish within eight weeks.
For the majority of the construction works it will be necessary to use three-way lights throughout the construction period. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the works. For the construction of the junction speed table, towards the end of the scheme, it will be necessary to implement a road closure and diversion route for a likely period of 2/3 days.
Should you have any queries about the above-mentioned scheme details or works please contact Mr Richard Clay on Leicester (0116) 3058246 and regarding the scheme identification Charlie Wardle on (0116) 3057273.

Holmfield Park - Police Efforts to Resolve ASB is a Success.

Working with residents your local Police Beat Team identified issues of anti social behaviour on Holmfield Park and Wardens Walk.

The beat team patrolled the area at peak times with a video camera and dealt with numerous offenders. Anti Social Behaviour letters were sent to more than 15 youths.
Residents who have spoken to local youths informed the beat Team that some of the young people had noticed from the Blog that high profile patrols were occurring in the area particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Beat Team has also been liaising with local youths and residents to inform them of a zero tolerance and updates. More »

Local residents have commented that they have seen youths over the age of 18 years old use the bins provided and that the park has significantly improved. They have thanked the Beat Team for their efforts”.

Voluntary Energy Champions Wanted in Braunstone Town - Are you interested in helping to tackle climate change ?

Braunstone Town Council has appealed for volunteers who are prepared to work with people in our area to help them understand climate change, how it impacts on them directly and how they can make a difference.

The Government says that Climate change, is the most serious challenge facing the world, and can only be tackled effectively if we all take action now.
They say that Parish and town councils, as the first tier of government, can play a substantial role in the drive to reduce the risks of climate change. More »

The Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Act 2006 gave parish and town councils specific powers in relation to local energy saving measures, which will reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. Parish and town councils can promote and support community initiatives to reduce emissions. Taking action now not only reduces the impact on the environment, but saves the parish and town council money too. It is suggested that parish and town councils can work with their communities to secure a more sustainable future. Whatever their size or location, all town and parish councils have the potential to make a real difference.

Thorpe Astley & LFE Residents Instrumental in Arrests

Blaby Local Policing Unit would like to thank vigilant residents for their assistance in the arrest of four suspects who were arrested on suspicion of burgling a house at Thorpe Astley. Originally a resident from Leicester Forest East called in and described prowlers in her back garden, alerting police officers to suspicious activity in the area. When a report was received an hour later of males having been disturbed breaking into a house at Thorpe Astley officers were ideally placed to attend and arrest the four males who are currently still being questioned. Street Seats - Should they be Retained of Removed?
Street Seats - Should they be Retained of Removed?

SHOULD THE SEATS AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS BE RETAINED OR REMOVED?

* Corner of Avon/Bidford Road
* Turnbull Drive Shops

Street Seats have traditionally been provided by the Town Council to offer our less mobile local residents a place rest on the way to the shops etc. Seats also offer people a place to meet up for a chat and watch the world go by. From time to time we get requests for seats to be removed because of rowdy or anti social behaviour etc.
WE WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR VIEWS ABOUT THE SEATS AT THE ABOVE LOCATIONS?
Please forward your comments to Ian Laughton, Braunstone Town Council, Civic Centre,Kingsway, Braunstone Town, Leicester LE3 2PP before 3rd September 2009
