She was formally appointed at the Annual Council meeting held o May 13th. Vice Chairman for the year will be Councillor Alan Bailey Councillor Fox was born in County Mayo, Ireland. attending a convent boarding School in County Offley until her family moved to London in the early 1960s. Here she met and married her husband Phil (also a Blaby District Councillor ) and they brought up their 3 daughters. She worked as a PA , before moving into education. Jo created and set up a local nursery where she lived, also organising crèches in the area and worked with single parents helping them to educate their children through play. In the early 80’s they moved to Leicester Jo worked at Southfields College as a senior lecturer teaching woodwork and associated trades., being the first woman to be appointed to the department. She settled in well and was very successful in encouraging women to take up trades. She then joined a small exclusive team to work on city programmes called Open Workshops co-ordinating work with unemployed people and people with no ‘real’ educational experience, designing programmes and helping them to return to education and to fulfil their ambitions. Jo now works in city education as a Lead Tutor (Arts and Humanities). She teaches lecturers and teachers with the aim of improving standards in education throughout the city Jo has been Leader of Braunstone Town Council for thirteen years and a Labour district Councillor at Blaby since 1995. Jo is a committed Roman Catholic, attending services regularly. She is a school governor at Winstanley Community College and has many interests including community projects, politics woodwork, music, reading and foreign holidays. Jo will be supported as consort by her mother Julia and her husband Phil. During the year she will be supporting and raising funds for CAFFY, Community Action Fund for Youth. CAFFY – Community Action Fund for Youth, This charity supports young people in the District of Blaby by providing facilities and activities for groups who have on-going projects which need additional funding to achieve their aims.
