The shaded areas on the plan show the extent of the areas at risk. A copy of the Strategy Document may be viewed by contacting the Executive Officer & Town Clerk at Braunstone Town Council’s offices on 0116 2899270, or further information on flooding can be found on the Environment Agency’s website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk

Lubbesthorpe Brook Update - 27th January 2010

Lubbesthorpe Brook - £560,000 Flood Reduction Project
The Environment Agency has announced plans to help reduce the risk of flooding in Lubbesthorpe Road. In August 2005 17 properties were flooded internally and a further 10 properties gardens and garages were affected. Again in July 2007 3 properties were flooded and about 30 more properties were affected externally. The Environment Agency propose to either deepen the brook so it holds more water or dig another channel further away from peoples homes. The Braunstone Town project is one of seven supported by the Midlands Local Levy.
At a recent Flood Fair meeting Braunstone Town Council representatives offered their full support for the project.

Lubbesthorpe Brook

There were incidents of local flooding on Lubbesthorpe Road
in the Autumn of 2001 and Lubbesthorpe Road and Thorpe Astley in August 2005. This followed a period of prolonged heavy rainfall following a long dry spell. Compacted ground at Thorpe Astley and debris in the brook contributed to the problems.

Local Flood Warden Scheme

The Flood Warden Scheme is an initiative organised through the Envirionment Agency. The roles of the Flood Warden are as follows:-

Flood Wardens recieve flood warnings from the Environment Agency
They disseminate warnings throughout the community
They report back to Blaby District Council as to the needs of the community such as the provision of sandbags or evacuation of people from their homes.

There are currently two Flood Wardens covering the Lubbesthorpe Road area and these can be contacted via the Town Council's offices on 0116 2899270.

There is still a Flood Warden needed to volunteer for the area backing onto Aylestone Meadows.

If you would like to volunteer or may be interested in joining a Flood Warden Scheme in your area, please contact the Executive Officer & Town Clerk on 0116 2899270 or email ianlaughton@braunstonetowncouncil.org.uk
