Flooding - Meeting at Police HQ - 22nd May 2008

Members of our community are being invited to attend a meeting to be held in the Main Conference room at Leicestershire Constabulary Force Headquarters, Enderby, on 22nd May from 7-8.30pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to explore ways in which you can limit the risk of any potential flooding affecting your neighbours and the community where you live. This invitation is extended to Parish Councils, Neighbourhood Watch members and key individuals from areas of Leicestershire & Rutland which have been identified as being located in possible ‘at risk’ flood areas.
Your views will be important in assisting the local authorities and the police to formulate emergency planning processes across Leicestershire & Rutland.
Please register your interest in attending this meeting by contacting:

Partnership Co-ordinator Bob Scott on 0116 2485937 or 07870757623 or via email at robert.scott@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk by Tuesday 20th May.

RIVER SOAR - The Environment Agency - Flood Risk Management Strategy
The Environment Agency has recently published its Flood Risk Management Strategy which shows the areas at risk from flooding in the South Leicestershire area. The shaded areas on the plan show the extent of the areas at risk. A copy of the Strategy Document may be viewed by contacting the Executive Officer & Town Clerk at Braunstone Town Council’s offices on 0116 2899270, or further information on flooding can be found on the Environment Agency’s website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk

Lubbesthorpe Brook

There were incidents of local flooding on Lubbesthorpe Road
in the Autumn of 2001 and Lubbesthorpe Road and Thorpe Astley in August 2005. This followed a period of prolonged heavy rainfall following a long dry spell. Compacted ground at Thorpe Astley and debris in the brook contributed to the problems.

Local Flood Warden Scheme

The Environment Agency has contacted the Town Council with a view to it introducing a Flood Warden Scheme. It is envisaged that Flood Wardens would assist our parishioners to be prepared for flooding, build and maintain awareness of flood risk and assist vulnerable individuals in the event that it is required in a flood situation. If you would like to volunteer or may be interested in joining a Flood Warden Scheme in your area, please contact the Executive Officer & Town Clerk on 0116 2899270 or email ianlaughton@braunstonetowncouncil.org.uk
